Brand Spotlighs: OX

“D
uality in harmony” is a foundational principal of fine jewelry concept brand, OX. The brainchild of brother and sister duo, Jessica and Michael Busiashvili, who launched the brand in 2022, the siblings have created a collection of sophisticated updates on classic silhouettes that has cross-gender and multi-generational appeal. Their signature, patented design is an accomplishment of both engineering and artistry, with diamonds culet-set on the ends of interlocking, hourglass shaped pods that spiral out in rhythmic fluidity.

And while Jessica is the original creator of the design concept, the siblings’ combined creativity is evident in all touchpoints of the brand.

Named the Ourglass collection, the designs are enabled with rotational movement with diamonds visible from every angle so that there is no “wrong” way to wear the pieces. And while Jessica is the original creator of the design concept, the siblings’ combined creativity is evident in all touchpoints of the brand.

While a young business, the origin story of OX dates back generations. Their whole lives, Jessica and Michael were surrounded by jewelry in their grandparents antique store, Caspis Jewelry, in Los Angeles, where their mother also worked. The shop was originally funded by the sale of their grandparents’ own, valuable diamonds that they’d taken with them when fleeing Georgia, then a part of the Soviet Union.

Caspis Jewelry not only allowed Jessica the opportunity to eventually work alongside her mother and her grandparents, but its storied past also firmly implanted in the young sibling’s minds the inherent power of precious metals and gemstones. Jessica notes that her grandmother Mimi, in particular, was adept at romanticizing fine jewelry, and encouraged the budding artist to notice and appreciate the intricacies of its design, and to embrace the stories each individual piece held.

While Michael went on to study law, Jessica, firmly bitten by the jewelry bug, went to GIA and earned her graduate gemologist diploma and jewelry design and technology certification. She later moved to New York City, where she emersed herself in learning about the craft with hands-on experience in all facets of the industry, from diamond and gemstone buying to production.

She worked on custom jewelry design projects for others, all the while knowing she wanted to conceptualize something that she could make entirely her own, fielding sources of inspiration from skater-culture wallet chains to a passing bike chain until finally, the idea of Ourglass solidified in her mind’s eye.

Despite her “ah-ha” moment, Jessica was careful to not rush bringing her idea to fruition. And Michael, recognizing the singularity of his sister’s concept, urged her to patent her work before showcasing it publicly. Patent rights secured and six years of development later, OX was born. The collection has evolved beyond its first pieces, including their first non-movement collection, EXO, which they introduced during their COUTURE debut, yet the hourglass form remains central to its aesthetic narrative.

All of their jewelry harmoniously fuses feminine and masculine principles and juxtaposes classic elegance with rebellious individuality, and the heirloom quality of their work further destines this duo to carry on their family’s legacy through the beauty of exceptional design and impeccable craftsmanship.
