All That Glitters: An Ode to Dolly

I
f you’re anything like me, Dolly Parton songs (and her every movie and public appearance) have been on repeat since the devastating news of her death on August 25. At 80 years old, she was a singular symbol of talent, grit, hard work, inventiveness and inspiration, and I know we all hoped she’d live forever. The widespread tributes, from the Kings Guard playing a rendition of “9 to 5” at Buckingham Palace to the Empire State Building lit up in sparkling pink at exactly 9:25 on the evening of her death to countless outpourings of grief from celebrities and regular people alike, it is evident that a profound love for Dolly Parton is the one thing upon which we can all universally agree.

The real magic of Dolly was her realness; she was full throttled, unapologetically her most authentic self.

Dolly’s beauty transcended the fabulous wigs, sky high heels, angelic face, megawatt smile and sparkly get ups for which she’s always been known. The real magic of Dolly was her realness; she was full throttled, unapologetically her most authentic self. She dressed exactly how she wanted, led by example, lived with love and took nobody’s BS. One of her (many!) famous quips was, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose,” and she did just that, ultimately using her power to do a tremendous amount of good for others.

When we sent out our call for images for our “Ode to Dolly” story, unsurprisingly, the submissions immediately started pouring in. From India to Iowa, from Lebanon to Los Angeles, COUTURE’s designers show us how they would have loved to lavish Dolly with their own brand of sparkle.

As evident in the cowgirl themed designs, oodles of pink, sparkling diamonds, rainbow hues, stars, hearts, flowers and butterflies seen here, our brands are paying tribute to Dolly’s legacy with pieces that say, with purpose and intention, “I will always love you.”
