esigner Moritz Glik’s signature style is easily identifiable. His Kaleidoscope Shakers feature diamonds and colored gemstones alike dancing freely in windowpanes of white sapphires, resulting in a shimmering play of color and light refraction. This wistful, whimsical approach to design is actually steeped deeply in history, and the precision and balance of his collections bely the intricacy of its craftsmanship. Moritz continuously expands upon his mastery as a bench jeweler, and his fresh and timeless collections showcase this artist’s innovation and creative singularity.
We caught up with this New York City-based designer and native of Brazil to discover some of his favorite haunts and hot spots, one of which, as it turns out, isn’t that far from his home in Chelsea.

COUTURE: Where do you live?
Moritz Glik: I live in Chelsea in New York City with my cat Apollo
COUTURE: What’s your favorite coffee shop?
MG: I don’t drink coffee but I love the croissant at Pret-a-Manger so I stop there as part of my daily ritual. 🙂
COUTURE: What’s your favorite bar to sit at and eat by yourself? (Assuming COVID is in the past!)
MG: I am “addicted” to Momoya in Chelsea – B.C. (before Covid) I used to be there twice a week, alone or with friends.
COUTURE: What’s your favorite bar or restaurant to hang out with friends?
MG: Momoya (again) – I can’t live without their Salmon Crunchy Roll. I also love Chinese Tuxedo downtown.
COUTURE: What’s your favorite gallery?
MG: I am lucky living in Chelsea, it’s easy to browse around galleries…I would say Sikkema Jenkins is my favorite; I know the owner Brent Sikkema well!
COUTURE: What’s your favorite park or other outdoor space?
MG: The rooftop in my building where we throw epic BBQ parties in the summer. Hopefully we will be able to do one soon!

COUTURE: What’s your favorite museum?
MG: In NYC, I would say the Met and the Noguchi museum. Internationally, I love the Victoria and Albert Museum and I don’t miss a chance to visit every time I am in London.
COUTURE: What’s one thing that isn’t widely known about your home town that makes it special?
MG: Belo Horizonte [where Moritz Glik is originally from] is a capital that has the most bars per capita in Brasil; I guess Belorizontinos love to drink. Also in BH there is Praça da Liberdade, which is a beautiful square full of Imperial Palm Trees from early 19th century.
COUTURE: You’re hosting five people for a dinner party, dead or alive. Who are they?
MG: my Winehouse, Mohammed Ali, Gandhi, Prince and Frida Khalo.
COUTURE: If you could have been born in another era, what would it be and why?
MG: Victorian era because I love the jewelry and the clothing of that time (how fun would it be to wear those clothes every day??) and apparently they drink all day long. 🙂
COUTURE: Which living artist do you most admire?
MG: Vik Muniz – besides being a living genius, he is also a friend of mine. I am fascinated by his art and his capacity of capturing the essence in everything. He’s also a big time philanthropist. I had the privilege to collaborate with him on a piece.
COUTURE: Which artist from history do you most admire?
MG: Caravaggio
COUTURE: What was the first piece of jewelry you fell in love with?
MG: It was a very wide bracelet all hand engraved that my mom wore when I was growing up. It was beautiful and very 60’s look.
