Andy’s “Speed of Color” collection showcases a sexy and contemporary use of plique-à-jour, a vitreous enameling technique originally developed in the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century C.E. Plique-à-jour, meaning “letting in the light,” mimics the visual effect of stained glass, allowing Andy’s work to incorporate both light and the human form into his designs.

Andy’s “Precision Cut” collection further emphasizes this artist’s passion for color. He works closely with the most skilled lapidaries in the process of giving thoughtful consideration to cutting style, light refraction, rarity of color and overall quality. Working primarily in 18k Italian gold, Andy creates custom prongs designed in tandem with each precision cut stone in his collection, creating an elegant complement through his meticulous attention to detail. Some of Andy’s most recent pieces combine both plique-à-jour with stone inlay and exceptionally cut gemstones, creating a vibrant and evocative aesthetic. In addition to the spectacular play of light and color, this combination also benefits from the relative lightness of the enamel, providing a big look in drop earrings while being comfortable for every day wear.

While all pieces are hand-crafted in Los Angeles, Andy draws inspiration from a variety of sources in the evolution of his collection. A native of Oregon, Andy has also lived extensively in New York City and Italy, where he had the opportunity to work with master craftspeople. He also attributes his creative drive to a long family history of artists and innovators, as well as the wide variety of artists with whom he surrounds himself; he is drawn to creativity in others, and deeply admires their brilliance in their particular craft.
