he jewelry that artist Sara Beltran designs for her Dezso brand is an extension of her life as a whole. Dezso, which means Desire in Latin, is an apt name for a collection that reflects Sara’s holistic approach to both her life and her creative endeavors. Born in El Paso, Texas, of Mexican descent, Sara now splits her time between homes in New York City, Mexico and Jaipur, India. A self-titled collector, her vast collections include art, vintage fashion, home accents and artifacts, all of which seamlessly integrate into the aesthetic of her jewelry designs.
She is drawn to natural elements, incorporating fossils, shells and shark teeth into her inherently one-of-a-kind pieces.

From paintings and wood carvings discovered in Cuba to shells found on the beaches of Mexico to gemstones carved in Jaipur to unusual cotton swabs found in Japan, Sara treasures each of the items she surrounds herself with not for their monetary value but for the way they positively impact her peace of mind.

She takes a similar approach to jewelry design, opting to focus on the vibe or feeling she wants to evoke and returning to that touchpoint throughout the creative process. While influences of the ocean can be seen throughout her collections, when interpreted through her singular point-of-view, the results bring to mind a philosophical reflection of the waves verses the insouciance of a clam bake on the beach.

Growing up, Sara was surrounded by creativity. Her mother, a painter and ceramicist, was always creating, and she invited her young daughter into her world, letting her help with projects. Sara’s mom is also an elegant and sophisticated jewelry enthusiast who loved receiving gifts of jewelry from her dad. Getting a first-hand look a the sentimentality and emotion that lies at the foundation of giving someone a gift of jewelry resonated with Sara, and she now enjoys designing jewelry that others can fall in love with.

Working mostly in 18k gold and some silver, Sara uses a variety of gemstones in her work, which she has specially carved to exacting standards for each piece she fabricates. She is drawn to natural elements, incorporating fossils, shells and shark teeth into her inherently one-of-a-kind pieces.

She’s also a lover of diamonds and she uses a mix of Polki diamonds, which are presented in their natural state, rose cut diamonds, which are flat bottom stones with a dome-shape top that have been used in jewelry since the 16th century, and brilliant diamonds that are cut to maximize light refraction.

The contemplative underpinnings of Sara’s work are an extension of the designer’s own world view. An ardent traveler, which is her greatest source of inspiration, Sara makes sure that she carves out time for self-care on both the spiritual and physical realms.

She is devoted to her family and is committed to enriching all of the important relationships in her life, and she also strictly adheres to her yoga practice, to body work, sleep and to the hard work of self-reflection and personal growth through ongoing work with her shaman and other spiritual guides.
