Brand Spotlight: Lord Jewelry

T
he designer behind Lord Jewelry, Sinork Agdere, was interested in the creative arts from a young age, and at the impressionable age of 14, he took on a jewelry apprenticeship with a renowned artisan and goldsmith at a small workshop in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. Endlessly curious, Sinork closely monitored his mentor for six months, observing and taking in his every move before finally having the opportunity to touch a piece of precious metal himself. In that pivotal moment, he felt his curiosity transform into what turned into a lifelong passion.

While he continued to perfect his craft, Sinork began to explore the historic periods of jewelry design, ultimately falling in love with the romance and timeless beauty of antique jewelry. Inspired by ancient fabrication techniques, he began teaching himself enameling, the most old-world and versatile method of incorporating luscious colors into jewelry design which, while technically difficult to master, quickly became a bedrock of his design and creative process. “When I work with enamel, I am reminded that life is colorful and joyful,” he has said of his penchant for incorporating the design component into his body of work.

Consistent with his thoughtful nature, Sinork continued to build on what would become his signature style, gradually establishing a loyal following among collectors and industry insiders. In 2002, he opened the doors of the Lord Jewelry atelier in the heart of the Downtown Los Angeles jewelry district and devoted himself to expanding upon the aesthetic foundation of his work. With prolific collections that beautifully marry old-world European flair with contemporary high fashion, Lord Jewelry has become the embodiment of Sinork’s vision.

Today, Sinork runs the company along with his daughter, Lena. Some of Lena’s most poignant childhood memories were made while sketching designs alongside her father in his workshop. Lena shares her father’s dedication to living a courageous and creative life, which led her to initially pursue other passions, studying environmental biology and marketing, chasing her own curiosities on an exploration of the Amazonian forests and conducting wildlife research on isolated islands. Eventually, however, Lena felt lured by the joy inherent in those childhood memories, and she decided to join her father’s business full-time in 2015. With Lena directing the brand, and Sinork leading the design and manufacturing charge, the dynamic duo is united in their efforts to continually make a vibrant mark on the world.

At COUTURE this year, we can expect to see a colorful expansion to the brand’s Rock Candy collection. “We have been exploring the edges of our own creativity and dreaming in full color to bring the sweetest additions to our jewels,” Lena explains. “We are happy to report that our variations on the theme are giving the most fabulous Art Deco vibes and projections of luxury and joy.”
