Los Angeles-based artist Suzanne Kalan has a long family history in the jewelry industry. Born in Lebanon, of Armenian descent, Suzanne’s husband is a diamond setter, and she grew up working alongside her father, a jeweler, in his store; it seemed inevitable that she would one day enter the industry she’d loved and been drawn to all of her life. Initially only designing pieces for herself and friends and family, Suzanne was encouraged by admirers of her work to create an eponymous collection, and upon the birth of her daughter, in 1988, she launched the Suzanne Kalan brand. She has since garnered global recognition, prestigious accolades and a dedicated following of well-heeled jewelry collectors from around the world.
Suzanne’s designs are distinctive in their innovation and uniqueness. Most notably, she has taken baguette-cut stones, which have traditionally been relegated for use solely as accent stones, and given them center stage, often in combination with complementary shaped stones. Applied with a contemporary twist to classic silhouettes, her proprietary Fireworks process of setting stones in tilted, seemingly random formations results in pieces that appear to contain an explosion of gemstones and diamonds. With both symmetry and asymmetry infused in each of her designs, Suzanne highlights the beauty in this graceful duality.

Suzanne now works alongside her daughter, Patile, and the mother/daughter duo continually expand upon applications of the Fireworks technique with fresh collections and signature-cuts that accentuate the beauty in their effect of controlled chaos. Working in both 18k and 14k gold, utilizing diamonds, sapphires, rubies and other precious gemstones such as topaz, amethyst, rose quartz and aquamarine, the Suzanne Kalan brand features pieces that appeal to a wide range of style sensibilities, from subtle studs with small flairs of color, to bold diamond bangles, to non-traditional wedding bands, to symbolic evil eyes, all containing a sense of whimsy and fluidity.
All Suzanne Kalan jewelry is handcrafted by highly skilled artisans in Los Angeles, California, and Suzanne and Patile are committed to creating pieces that women want to wear now, and that can be passed down through generations. The two have an innate sense of what’s trending, and their work continually anticipates the zeitgeist with a modern-day approach to traditional themes. Beautiful when worn as a single statement piece, Suzanne Kalan jewelry is even more breathtaking when stacked and layered in singular expressions of individuality.
