T
AP by Todd Pownell is a fully realized expression of the well-orchestrated dance inherent in the partnership of designers Todd Pownell and his partner in life and creativity, Debra Rosen. Todd has a technical background as a trained metalsmith and gemologist and he approaches their design process with a sense of vastness, while Debra’s background in Art History and jewelry as an artform, rooted in the European studio atelier traditions, causes her to focus on the minutiae in each of their pieces. These complementary perspectives result in a distinctly romantic aesthetic.
The duo describes their creative process as at times chaotic, yet filled with joy and struggle.

The duo describes their creative process as at times chaotic, yet filled with joy and struggle. The visual effect of this collection of jewelry mimics the tensions of a gathering storm in the night sky, and the form and contrast of low angled light as it’s cast across a landscape into the gazing eye. Throughout their collection, the richness of yellow gold contrasts with oxidized sterling silver, often featuring inverted diamonds or unique combinations of diamond shapes, in designs that are both organic and refined.

TAP by Todd Pownell is proudly produced entirely by hand by artisans in the brand’s Cleveland, OH-based live/work space. Each piece honors the natural properties and form and structure of the precious metals and gemstones with which it is created, and pays homage to the universal order in nature. A spirit of collaboration runs throughout the design and fabrication process, with each member of the studio team applying their own aesthetic vision and perception to the narrative being told by the jewelry they produce.
