Hidden Gems: Grace Renee Gallery

G
race Renee Gallery is an oasis of artistry situated in the shadows of the Sonoran Desert foothills in majestic, Carefree, Arizona. With a curated selection of contemporary art and jewelry, the gallery showcases artfully designed jewelry, inspiring sculptures, spectacular wall art and stunning ceramics. Each piece has been lovingly hand-selected by the gallery’s owner, Shelly Spence, who reveres the work as a reflection of the creativity and imaginations of the talented artists she affectionately carries. We were delighted to catch up with Shelly to find out what designers her clients are currently responding to, and to get some inside tips on what to do in Carefree, Arizona.

Grace Renee Gallery is in the North Scottsdale region, where Ho and Hum roads meet in the picturesque town of Carefree.

COUTURE: What’s notable about your store?

Shelly Spence: Grace Renee Gallery offers a refreshingly beautiful way to explore elegant, artfully designed jewelry and find the precious piece that is perfectly you. Each carefully selected item in our sophisticated showroom is a reflection of the creativity and imaginations of the talented designers whose collections we affectionately carry.

Roberto Coin

COUTURE: What COUTURE designers or brands are your clients really responding to lately and why?

SS: In addition to our legacy brands such as Roberto Coin, which skillfully and romantically tells stories with borderless imagination through jewels that truly become works of art, we have brought in a number of new designers about whom our clients have been very excited.

Mattia Cielo

We carry a collection of colorful, eye-catching designs from luxury jewelry designer Katherine Jetter, who works exclusively with jewels so pure as to not require any heating or chemical alteration to bring out their color and radiance.

We also carry pieces from Mattia Cielo, whose moving jewels combine the latest technology with centuries of goldsmithing craftsmanship for the perfect fusion of minimalism and sophistication.

Stephen Webster

And we’ve most recently brought in exquisitely crafted pieces from Stephen Webster, who is considered jewelry royalty. His designs marry traditional craftsmanship, innovation, fair trade and a decidedly rebellious rock ’n’ roll spirit, earning him scores of devotees.

COUTURE: Where’s the best spot in town to grab a quick lunch?

SS: There is so much diversity in the area so it is difficult to pick just one spot. But right across the courtyard from our gallery is this fabulous place called Keeler’s Neighborhood Steakhouse. It is known for amazing happy hours, sunsets on the roof deck patio and the highest quality beef, seafood and chops. If you’re looking for a great dinner, you really can’t beat it. But there are also so many other incredible options in the area from which to choose. It just depends on what you’re in the mood for.

English Rose Tea Room

COUTURE: Where’s the best restaurant for entertaining clients or out-of-town guests?

SS: This one is easy. Since opening its doors more than two decades ago, the English Rose Tea Room has become a beloved staple of the Carefree community. Stephen Webster was recently in town from London and he thoroughly enjoyed lunch there. Showcasing an interior to rival the Ritz Hotel — complete with floral decor, crystal chandeliers and bone china — the elegant establishment is the perfect spot to enjoy a formal afternoon tea or simply a light lunch with a friend.

COUTURE: What’s your favorite bar?

SS: This goes back to that diversity I was talking about. After enjoying lunch at the English Rose Tea Room, Stephen Webster had dinner at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral — which is known for so much more than just its great food. Having opened in 1935, the quintessential cowboy bar is bursting at the seams with history. It is a place that you just have to experience when you’re in town.

Civana Resort

COUTURE: What’s your favorite local cultural spot?

SS: The best thing about Grace Renee Gallery is that it’s also filled with inspiring sculptures, spectacular wall art and stunning ceramics from more than a dozen talented artists from around the globe. But I also love CIVANA — a nearby destination wellness resort that offers a regenerating experience through a world-class spa, daily sweat and meditation, curated personal growth and discovery content, outdoor adventures and access to world-renowned wellness guides and healers. It truly embodies the heart of Carefree.

COUTURE: What’s special about your town?

SS: Grace Renee Gallery is in the North Scottsdale region, where Ho and Hum roads meet in the picturesque town of Carefree. We’re located in the iconic Historic Spanish Village — one of the first buildings constructed in the community back in 1969. The white stucco arches lead to an enchanting courtyard that have welcomed generations of locals and visitors, many of whom return year after year, sharing a childhood memory with grandchildren now in tow. It’s more than a collection of upscale art galleries, shops and restaurants; it’s an experience.
