Machine Gun Kelly Pops the Question with Bespoke Stephen Webster Ring

A
ll of the headlines on Thursday morning were overshadowed by the big news of the day—Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are engaged! A romance replete with plenty of antics that have long been fodder for gossip sites and the celebrity obsessed, this monumental next step in their relationship was made with characteristic aplomb and singular distinctiveness. Kelly (whose real name is Colson Baker) popped the question under the same Banyan tree where the two first met, presenting his beloved with a custom-made emerald and diamond ring designed by the incomparable Stephen Webster.

“He told me he wanted something really creative, something that people were going to talk about,” Webster explains. “I told him he’d come to the right place!”

For Webster, who had never worked with Kelly prior to this commission, the process was, “Pure romance.” When he approached Webster, Kelly mentioned that he’d first become aware of the designer a decade ago, when he fell in love with the brand’s “Seven Deadly Sins” rings, but at the time, they were out of his price range. Buying a piece from Webster to pop the question felt like perfect timing, “He told me he wanted something really creative, something that people were going to talk about,” Webster explains. “I told him he’d come to the right place!”

In order to begin to conceptualize the ring, Webster asked Kelly to write about his feelings for Megan, a task that evidently played to the rapper’s strengths because what he was given “felt like a verse.” Webster elaborated, “It was a real process, and now knowing him a bit more, I can see that this is a super creative thinking guy; there’s a different existence, and this is the existence of that romance.”

The finished piece is a Toi et Moi (Me and You in French) ring that symbolizes two souls becoming one. Popular for hundreds of years, Webster’s interpretation is decidedly unique and modern. The piece is actually two rings, one featuring a diamond (Kelly’s birthstone) and an emerald (Fox’s birthstone), that lock together using magnets, “You can wear them separately, but the moment you bring them close together, they lock together and become one perfect ring,” Webster says. According to Kelly’s Instagram post, the two pear-shaped stones are set “on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love.”

In an announcement on her Instagram account, Fox wrote, “In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree. We asked for magic… Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes.…and then we drank each other’s blood.”

And with that, big congrats to the happy vampires, er, we mean couple!
