Our Friend and Colleague, Jan Mohr

I
t is with the heaviest hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Mohr, jewelry industry veteran and COUTURE’s long-time Retailer Liaison. Shortly after her retirement this past June, Jan was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. Despite her fierce determination, the love and affection of her family and friends and the care of her medical team, she lost her battle on December 25, 2025, while surrounded by her husband Larry, daughter Madelyn Fischer, and son-in-law Drew Fischer. She was 71.

Jan will forever be cherished for her incalculable admirable qualities.

Jan will forever be cherished for her incalculable admirable qualities. She often quipped, when commiserating with her colleagues about work challenges, “If it was easy, they wouldn’t need us!” Yet anybody who had the privilege of knowing this incredible woman can attest that Jan made everything look easy. She exuded grace, elegance and sophistication, characteristics that were rivaled only by her kindness.

The care and consideration she showcased to everyone around her were remarkable; she remembered milestones and accomplishments of others and unabashedly celebrated even their smallest successes. She was everybody’s biggest cheerleader, and the best friend anyone could hope to have.

“As I said when presenting Jan with the newly minted Hidden Gem Award at our 2025 COUTURE Design Awards, Jan is our rock, our unsung hero, our north star, and the most inspiring person I’ve ever met,” said Gannon Brousseau, EVP, Emerald. “When I took this job, I knew that I just wanted to make her proud. Jan’s impact on our industry, on our community, and on me personally, is indelible. We join her family and the entire industry in mourning this tremendous loss.”

Brousseau also noted that moving forward, the Hidden Gem Award will be renamed in Jan’s honor. He explains, “Voted on by COUTURE’s design community, the Jan Mohr Award for Excellence will be presented to a retailer who honors Jan’s legacy by consistently showcasing kindness, respect and dignity to their brand partners and maintains a commitment to fostering the success of the designers with whom they work.”

Jan Mohr

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Jan grew up in Holland, Ohio and graduated with honors from Northern Ohio State. She began her illustrious career in the jewelry industry behind the counter of a local retailer and went on to become the Fine Jewelry Buyer at Henry Birks USA before taking on the role of Regional Sales Manager for Tiffany & Co.’s Trade Division. She joined COUTURE in 2000 and served tirelessly as the event’s Retailer Liaison until her retirement in June of 2025.

Throughout her tenure, countless retailers relied upon Jan to provide a seamless experience of COUTURE. An inimitable teammate, Jan was a constant source of support and guidance for anyone lucky enough to work with her. Perennially stylish and a bastion of etiquette, her wit, humor and joie de vivre will be profoundly missed, and her influence will forever be deeply tied to the ethos of the COUTURE community.

Jan Mohr and Madelyn Fischer

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Ruth Carpenter and George William Carpenter. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Larry Howard Mohr; her beloved and only daughter, Madelyn Meryl Fischer (and husband, Andrew James Fischer); and her siblings, Timothy Daniel Carpenter, Christine Ann Flanagan, Mary Beth Carpenter-Pandhi, and Teresa Ellen Haque. Jan also cherished her lifelong friendship with Kathy Ilene Bellos (and husband, Michael Bruce Bellos), who were like family to her.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for some time in 2026 with details to be announced at a later date. The family is asking that anyone who feels compelled to pay homage to Jan’s memory, in lieu of flowers, make a donation to the Glioblastoma Research Organization.
