The Edit: Edible Adornment

W
henever looking at particularly gem-y gemstones, it’s hard not to think, “That looks good enough to eat!” Watermelon tourmalines that look like, well, watermelon, garnets that resemble Jolly Ranchers, pink sapphires that bring to mind bubble gum, we embrace all of it! A handful of COUTURE designers and brands have brought the concept of jewelry-as-edible to the next level, creating pieces that entice multiple senses.

Better yet, for anyone who is keen on counting calories or has dietary restrictions, these pieces are entirely guilt-free!

Harwell Godfrey

From Harwell Godfrey’s Honey Bear pieces to Sorellina’s Dieci collection, these pieces capture not only the essence of food, but also food’s ability to bring people together. While the concept of “breaking bread” originates in the Bible, the beauty inherent in communing with others over a meal or a drink is universal, giving even a greater sense of sentimentality to these edible adornments. Better yet, for anyone who is keen on counting calories or has dietary restrictions, these pieces are entirely guilt-free!

Harwell Godfrey:

The designer behind Harwell Godfrey, Lauren Godfrey, was once (among other things) a food stylist, so she possesses in-depth knowledge of how to enhance the most aesthetically pleasing characteristics of food and drink. Furthermore, Lauren is a true foodie who takes great joy in life’s simple pleasures, like a perfectly balanced shot of tequila, a tin of fine caviar or a sweet drop of honey.

Sorellina

Sorellina:

The sisters behind Sorellina, Kim and Nicole Carosella, lean in to their Italian heritage in many aspects of their brand. The brand’s name means Sisters in Italian and many of their pieces pay homage to their shared memories of spending time in their motherland.

Sorellina

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Kim and Nicole launched their Dieci collection (ten in Italian), which recalls summer family holidays in Capri that date back to their childhood. From the electric blue of the water to the scent of lemon in the air, the collection is nostalgic while also encouraging living, and enjoying, the present moment.

SAUER Necklace

Sauer:

With a background in psychology and fashion, Creative Director Stephanie Wenk has given a fresh voice and perspective to the 80+ year old Brazilian brand Sauer since taking over in 2013

SAUER Cuffs

During this past COUTURE show, their exploration of the Fungi Kingdom continued in the Fungus Collection, which was originally launched in 2015. In unique combinations of varying shades of wood and colored gemstones, the brand pays homage to delicacies like morel mushrooms and truffles, as well as to psychedelic mushrooms that led to the development of LSD.

Julez Byrant

Julez Bryant:

The entire foundation of the Julez Bryant brand lies in a commitment to living in the moment. As a cancer survivor, Julez continues to support others in their battles with the disease, while also bringing light into the world with her joyful collection of jewelry inspired by the California coast. The “Summer Lovin'” vibe of her work is perfectly articulated in her LUMI pendant, an extra-large mushroom shinning with “a kaleidoscope of groovy colors and the energy of Mother Nature.” The satin finish and hand-etching are perfectly complemented by strategically placed beads of sapphires and diamonds, resulting in a playful, 3D effect.

Joanna Dahdah

Joanna Dahdah:

Lebanon-based Joanna Dahdah pays homage to her native Beirut throughout her body of work. Her devotion to her family is expressed in symbols of childhood memories and her love of spending time with family over long, Sunday lunches. Ripe bunches of grapes, bursting pomegranates and the diverse flavor of pistachios evoke the rituals of family and food and express the joyful contentment of being surrounded by loved ones, and these illustrative themes convey a complexity of emotions that render these whimsical charms instant heirlooms.
