The Edit: Meaningful Jewels

W
riting a story about meaningful gems featuring the work of COUTURE’s talented designers and brands is a daunting task. The craftsmanship, ingenuity and imaginativeness that exemplifies this community’s creative output gives meaning to any piece, and thoughtful, detailed craftsmanship is an essential quality of all truly exceptional, heirloom-worthy jewelry. When looked at from this perspective, what jewelry isn’t meaningful?

Paula Crevoshay

For the purposes of this month’s Edit, we’re highlighting some overarching themes and sentiments that embody the concept of “meaningful jewelry.” Sometimes the meaning is in the narrative tale, as in Paula Crevoshay’s divine cuff bracelet honoring Nefertiti. One in a series of “Power Bracelets,” it was “created to celebrate the ability, grace and beauty that is every woman’s birthright.”  Or HOWL.’s pinky ring from The Godfather Collection inspired by the deep Italian roots of the mob scene and its essential tie with pinky rings and  power.

Lord Jewelry

Sometimes it’s a symbol of religion, spirituality and beliefs, such as the prolific collections grounded in Eastern philosophical traditions designed by Buddha Mama, or Lord Jewelry’s bold interpretation of a classic Nazar.

Luvor

Often, it can be the metaphysical properties of gemstones, either alone or in combination, such as the sapphires and emeralds in Luvor’s earrings, which is believed to blend the energies of wisdom, intuition, communication and abundance, or in Tacori’s Classic Crescent RoyalT ring in sapphire and platinum channeling peace and harmony.

Lotus Arts de Vivre

Then there are archetypal symbols of good fortune, as seen in Lotus Arts de Vivre’s upright elephant trunk handbag, which is so exquisite it could serve as a precious objet d’art, or in Tariq Riaz’s Infinity ring with its captivating and proprietary AbrazoFIT technology. And of course our selection of jewelry abounds with signs, both overt and subtle, of love and affection, influences from the Animal Kingdom and homages to travel and culture. All chic, all stunning and all powerful in their abilities to harness the connections, meaning and intentionality we crave.
