dmittedly, the initial impetus for writing an “ocean-inspired” story stemmed from a personal desire to hit the beach. If I couldn’t make it to the shore myself, I reasoned, at the very least, I could pick up some seasonal vibes by way of precious metals and gemstones. The submissions I received however, are more transcendental than they are merely transporting. Seashells, sea-creatures, waves and coral evoke an underwater world filled with magic and whimsy and highlight the mysteries of this underwater world.

Whether interpretive, like the “Fins” earrings from Be Liza’s “Siren” collection or the wave pin submitted by MOKSH, or literal, like Onirikka’s fish pendant with scales of enamel and Kabana’s life-like Octopus bracelet, these pieces bring the ocean alive in any season. Azure gemstones, like those seen in Bijule’s sky blue topaz “Wave Life Compass” ring and Mortiz Glik’s opal and peridot a-symmetrical “Kaleidoscope Shaker” earrings conjure up images of clear skies and calm waters, like a little slice of peace and calm that can weather any storm.
