Trend Report: Bracelets For Impact

N
o jewel expresses quite the same kind of bold message as a big bracelet. A symbol of strength and glamour, a big bracelet is the equivalent of a luxurious piece of armor in a way earrings, rings and necklaces usually are not. Of course, the style will always conjure up Wonder Woman’s jewels, but you don’t really need two like the superhero. If you do it right, one bracelet can be as empowering as a pair.

It’s been a while since big bracelets strolled down the red carpet. They finally resurfaced at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards on Cate Blanchett, Kate Hudson and Chelsea Handler. Each woman wore totally unique styles. One was all gold (Cate), another pearls and gold (Kate) and the third gold and coral (Chelsea). The unifying factors of the trio were the grand size of the designs and how each woman made the piece a powerful punctuation point of their ensemble. All of them got my attention.

The Hollywood jewels put into focus the big bracelets being shown by COUTURE designers. Find out more about bracelets by FERNANDO JORGE, TABAYER, RETROUVAÍ and SELIM MOUZANNAR below.

Every curve, every gem, every millimeter of gold in Fernando Jorge’s jewels are carefully considered. The Brazilian designer, who recently opened a divine showroom in London where he is based, launched his career in America at COUTURE not so very long ago.

Last year, Fernando celebrated his 10th anniversary in business with glorious creations including sexy diamond and gold statement bracelets that “focus on the relationship between the object and the body.” They are defined by lines of diamonds that swoop around the wrist and forearm. Fernando’s lapis, diamond and gold Comet bracelet is more of a solid design. It’s inspired by our connection to the earth, but also looks to the stars.

A love of historical jewelry styles and deep knowledge of the art and craft can be seen in everything Selim Mouzannar creates. There is a twinkle of a 19th century star motif and the shine of enamel techniques from yesteryear in pieces from his collection.

The French-Lebanese designer’s bold bracelets have roots in a couple of eras. Jazz Age women could have danced the night away in Selim’s aquamarine, diamond and black enamel wide bracelets. A regal lady from the Victorian era would have been as happy in his amethyst and gold web like bracelet as any modern woman who wants to make a jewelry statement.
