He went on to work in a variety of professions, from journalism to photography to gallery owner, before the seminal moment when he met Ronald Winston, the son and heir of famed jeweler Harry Winston. A chemist, gemologist and ardent Japanese Art connoisseur, Ronald encouraged Alexander to follow his true passion and became the inspiration for Alexander’s first collection.

Working with an exquisite procurement of hand-selected gemstones, Alexander’s prolific high jewelry designs evoke emotion through his unique use of design, color and scale. Alexander has always felt a profound connection to water. A Pisces, his last name translates in Indonesian and Malay as “Sea,” which he credits in part for the unquenchable need to swim. His connection to the water has even earned him the nickname “Mr. Sea” in the Australian farms from where he sources organic, South Sea pearls, which he incorporates into his work in homage to the ocean. Themes of the sea can also be found in vibrant blue green shades of Paraiba tourmaline, iridescent hues of aquamarines and the calming glow cast by blue sapphires, as well as in overt motifs of marine life.
