Brand Spotlight: Kavant & Sharart

F
ounded by husband and wife team, Nuttapon (Kenny) and Shar-Linn, Kavant & Sharart’s jewelry is intended to satisfy more than the wearer’s need for something beautiful. The duo creates work that is sophisticated and impeccably crafted, and also original and diverse, allowing a woman to highlight the nuances of her personality and sensibilities. Transitional and timeless, their jewelry transcends seasons and of-the-moment trends and is meant to be passed down and enjoyed for generations to come.

Transitional and timeless, their jewelry transcends seasons and of-the-moment trends and is meant to be passed down and enjoyed for generations to come.

Kenny and Shar-Linn first met in 2004 when the two were both attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Kenny had been born into jewelry; his father was a jeweler and owned a store, while his grandfather was a goldsmith, and he gave Shar-Linn her first introduction to jewelry design.

After graduation, the couple moved to California, where Kenny took gemology courses at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and Shar-Linn embarked on a career in finance. Over time, the pull to join Kenny’s creative pursuits became too strong and she soon joined him in business. Married in 2011, they moved back overseas and began splitting their time between their native Bangkok and Singapore.

When applied to their designs, Kenny and Shar-Linn’s juxtaposing senses of creativity become seamlessly complementary. Endlessly inspired by nature, and specifically the sea, Kenny infuses the work with organic elements, while Shar-Linn’s love for Art Deco and motifs of Oriental Art balance fluidity with geometric forms. Their work is both subtly and dramatically transformational, with different effects created by a slight of the eye or complex, technical acumen.

Many of their pieces break apart and can be worn in myriad ways, such as the earrings that earned the couple Best in Debuting at COUTURE’s Design Awards in 2016. Their newest collection, Twist, was inspired by Hilma af Klint’s abstract piece “The Swan,” which Kenny envisioned in motion.

One of the rings of the collection, as an example, can be rotated in different directions with the help of a minute spring system. “We have stayed true to our ethos of crafting transformable, timeless jewels that can be relied upon throughout different seasons and occasions,” Kenny says of the collection.

The Twist collection also includes a core piece, Le Petite, around which other pieces can be added and layered, “We love the simplicity of the series and best of all it complements the rest of the collection,” Shar-Linn explains.

In a brand statement, Kenny, who serves as the company’s Creative Director, said, “We like to think of our jewelry as tailored elegance for the modern women.” A roster of celebrity collectors that includes Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Madonna, Tina Fey, Hilary Duff, Lupita Nyong’o, Lily Collins, Naomi Watts and Gabrielle Union, is further evidence that Kavant & Sharart’s work has broad appeal to a wide range of jewelry, style and design enthusiasts.
