alerie Messika welcomed me into her bright white office, dressed impeccably in a white gauzy top and diamonds of her design. The office, perched above the Messika Paris HQ, on Rue la Fayette in Paris in an ornate 1870 building, feels classic Paris on the outside; but inside the decor is Modern and sleek. Such is the jewelry made there, and the woman at the helm. Valerie has the unique talent of making extreme luxury look casual – such as huge pear shaped diamonds made to feel cool. Significant diamonds can feel stodgy but through her lens, Valerie remixes them to be worn every day by real women, and not left in the safe. I sat down with Valerie just before her collaboration with Kate Moss, which subsequently took Paris fashion week by storm. She showed me some of her favorite pieces and filled out my #willsnotebook questionnaire.
