Studio Visits with Will Kahn: CADAR

S
omething I look for in a jewelry designer is a distinctive point of view. Everyone can make a hoop earring, and most look the same, but what is your unique take on that hoop? Then I want to see that same point of view mirrored throughout a collection, where I can look at any piece and I could guess the designer. Michal Kadar’s collection has always satisfied these requirements since the first time I saw her pieces.

With clever styling, a singular point of view and ideas that always feel fresh but are grounded in classics—CADAR is just the type of design that excites me.

Her brand, CADAR, is modern but not simple. The mostly yellow gold pieces are clean and geometric with deco and classical references that make them feel timeless.

For instance, a feather earring shape is reinterpreted in flat-shiny-gold graduated chevrons that shimmer and move. The earrings beg to be worn, and hopefully danced in- as they are a party in themselves.

Michal’s background as a former fashion designer contributes to the wearability of the jewelry. She knows how women should dress and inspires them to do so, now in gold instead of fabric

Particularly inspirational is Michal’s signature earring stacks. She styles three of her earrings in small, medium and large on one ear. The multiple earrings are one cool and cohesive statement.

With clever styling, a singular point of view and ideas that always feel fresh but are grounded in classics—CADAR is just the type of design that excites me.
