Studio Visits with Will Kahn: Jenna Blake

I
pulled up to the Bel Air home of Jenna Grosfeld, parking beside a bubbling fountain and the carefully trimmed hedges of a motor court. The home was completed in 1940 in the style of an18th century European country house. Once called home by Dean Martin, Tom Jones and Nicholas Cage, its current incarnation is a family home for Jenna, her husband, three children, and her flourishing jewelry business.

The home is a good indicator of Jenna ’s style, a sophisticated and unexpected mix of color, styles, art and antiques.

The home is a good indicator of Jenna ’s style, a sophisticated and unexpected mix of color, styles, art and antiques. For example, the foyer with its traditional paneling is home to a Jean Royère table, large scale modern art, and a striking display of her many vases filled with all colors of flowers.

A voracious collector, Jenna has filled the home with numerous collections of ceramics, glassware, linens, china, even Chanel jackets. For all its trappings, the home could be stuffy, but it does not come off that way. Instead, it combines color and fantasy and luxury; like Tony Duquette but more polished and modern. While at the same time being comfortable and livable for a family. Her Jewelry, housed in a perfect pink office on the second floor, has the same qualities as the home.

The look is a collected mix of periods and influences, think heishi beads layered with necklaces of vintage Georgian-set diamonds.  Jenna wears them all together in an Ali MacGraw-meets-Beverly-Hills style. There are Art-Deco-inspired rings mixed with southwestern-inspired bracelets

The pieces are all different but sit harmoniously together- with commonalities of color and wearability. Jenna wants you to play with her jewelry, to wear it in multiple ways. Mostly she wants you to think of your jewelry as a collection.  Each new piece complementing the last, collecting your style as you go.
