Studio Visits with Will Kahn: Moritz Glik

I
walked to Moritz Glik’s Midtown New York showroom on a cold January day for our first in-person meeting—we had previously only conversed on zoom. A zoom meeting, often dull and sterile, was not so with Glik, who I remember as creative and warm.

Yes, they are lovely to look at but even more fun to touch. It’s this joy that turns most of his customers into collectors.

His jewelry translates just as well online, as business has boomed in recent years. But this jewelry is something you should experience in person. Glik is known for his kaleidoscope shaker collections, in which loose gemstones are housed behind windows of watch grade sapphire.

I watched as Glik maneuvered small diamonds one by one with tweezers into one of his best-selling rings. The result is kinetic, fun and extremely popular. Yes, they are lovely to look at but even more fun to touch. It’s this joy that turns most of his customers into collectors.
