T
he work of Canadian-based designer, Sanaz Doost, is an expression of her emotions and a reflection of the experiences that have formed her worldview. Influences of her Iranian heritage are evident both aesthetically and in the intentionality she applies to her designs.
Sanaz Doost’s geometric-forward pieces are both bold and refined.

With a background in Industrial Design, Sanaz is acutely aware of proportion and scale, and she employs this knowledge in conveying the cultural richness in which she immersed herself throughout over a decade of solo travels.

Born and raised in Shiraz, a southwestern city in Iran, Sanaz was enamored with adornment from a young age. In Iranian tradition, gifts of gold are given abundantly, with children receiving gold jewelry as infants. This reverence for the precious metal that was instilled in Sanaz from her first memories was bolstered by her habit of stringing together the vines and flowers in the gardens native to her homeland, weaving bits of nature to drape on necks and wrists and igniting in her an unceasing passion for the artform.

A self-described nomad, Sanaz left Iran at the age of 19, a desire to explore her independence coupled with an incessant curiosity about the world leading her to adventures in places as far-reaching as Cyprus, Malaysia, Turkey, France, Singapore, the Netherlands and Indonesia.

Her sense of wonderment drove her continually to intellectual and creative pursuits, earning degrees in Industrial Design and Philosophy of Art, and studying among master jewelers in Grand Bazaars.

Sanaz settled in Canada in 2017, where she earned an advance diploma of Jewelry Arts from George Brown College of Toronto, before launching her eponymous collection in downtown Toronto in 2022. A bench jeweler, each piece is crafted by hand using exclusively Canadian sourced materials. Working alongside a small team of skilled artisans, Sanaz proudly supports immigrant craftspeople whom she relies upon to help bring her designs to life.

Sanaz Doost’s geometric-forward pieces are both bold and refined. Fluid curves are formed through the precise application of lines, enhancing the richness in the softly textured 18k gold she uses in her work.

Her jewelry showcases a sense of confidence that could only be attained through a strong sense of self, an ability to hold on to one’s center even in itinerant environments. Through her imaginative and distinctive designs, rings stand proudly and unapologetically like buildings on the finger, pendants astonish with a profound level of thoughtful detail.

Sanaz’ deftness in manipulating light infuses in her jewelry subtle elements beyond the sum of each piece’s component parts and is illustrative of her awareness of how the work will be worn on the body. Open latticework and soft edges cast a glow on the skin, inviting the sun itself to become a part of the designs, and allowing collectors of her work to become a part of the narrative of each, heirloom-worthy piece.
