Brand Spotlight: Yataghan

T
he Saudi Arabian jeweler behind Dubai-based brand, Yataghan, Sarah Abudawood, draws inspiration from the eye-catching sword after which her brand is named. An exquisitely crafted piece of weaponry whose masterful creation was relegated to the purview of skilled artisans, Yataghans were distinctly elegant features of the Ottoman empire. These swords were engraved with Arabic poetry and encrusted with precious gems and were expressions of both artistry and courageousness. In her work, Sarah translates the spirit of the Yataghan in pieces that embrace the demands of a contemporary life.

Sarah’s work is imbued with emotion, and she has a profound confidence in fine jewelry’s ability to express one’s individuality.

When she first launched the company in 2008, Sarah was considered a disrupter, pioneering the online retail movement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, establishing the standard for the new normal and paving the way for future generations. Sarah’s passion and creativity is an ever-present force, and she is continually driven to manifest her worldview into wearable works of art. An architectural photographer, she is drawn to bold lines and abstraction, and throughout her collections runs a through-line of minimalist architecture and geometric perspectives, delicately merged with influences of her cultural heritage.

Sarah’s work is imbued with emotion, and she has a profound confidence in fine jewelry’s ability to express one’s individuality. Her Identity collection incorporates inspirational phrases in Arabic, while her Chakra collection celebrates the magic of gemstones in designs intended to harness their mystical powers. Lotus features shield cut diamonds in modern interpretations of mesmerizing lotus flowers that strike a perfect balance of bold and feminine. The inspiration for the Infinity collection lies in Sarah’s life-long affinity for the number 8 and her belief that it represents infinite possibilities, infinite love and infinite dreams.

Each piece is painstakingly hand-crafted by artisans in the Yataghan atelier, who, under Sarah’s direction, utilize only the finest precious metals and gems in the fabrication process. “Jewellery is the most beautiful form of self-expression,” Sarah explains. “It reflects both style and identity. We aim that YATAGHAN continues to play a positive role in the journey of both women and men that engage with the brand. At YATAGHAN we will only achieve our mission when our clients find in us an extension of themselves and their journey to growth and fulfillment.”
