rancesca Villa’s work is filled with a sense of adventure. Inspired by her travels and fueled by an inherent sense of curiosity, the designer’s jewelry is inspired by and set with Objets Trouvé. The sense of intimacy her jewelry evokes is a testament to the profound connection Francesca has with the artform, one that was established at a young age. Encouraged by her grandmother to value jewelry’s transcendental qualities, and enchanted by tales her sea captain grandfather told her about the souvenirs he’d obtained on his voyages, Francesca learned to revere jewelry’s intrinsic sentimentality.
From there, she translates the idea that’s formed in her mind’s eye to paper, where it gets decorated with gemstones, enamel and engravings..
Born in the picturesque seaside town of Liguria, Francesca always felt drawn to a more cosmopolitan lifestyle. She left her hometown to move to Milan, then Rome, and finally Solonghello, in the Monferrato Hills of the Piedmont Valley, where her atelier is located. With a natural penchant for design, Francesca worked for years as Creative Director for some of the most important Italian luxury houses.
Her designs were an enormous commercial success, recreated and sold thousands of times, and yet she began to feel stifled creatively by the parameters of the successful career she’d built. In 2007, she branched out on her own to launch her eponymous collection in order to express herself more authentically.
Francesca’s imaginative designs are a visual representation of lives lived and experiences had, a celebration of the past, an embrace of the beauty in life’s complexities. Vintage buttons and ephemera, richly patterned Venetian glass beads, or whimsical, hand-painted crystals serve as a catalyst to her creativity, their vitality a spark of inspiration. From there, she translates the idea that’s formed in her mind’s eye to paper, where it gets decorated with gemstones, enamel and engravings.
Francesca prides herself on partnering with expert artisans, each of whom is a master of his craft with decades of hands-on experience. She tasks these craftspeople to find innovative solutions for bringing her vision to life. The uncompromising standards of excellence that she’s honed over the years ensures that all materials incorporated into her designs are of the highest quality, and that each element of her designs is carefully considered and thoughtfully executed, with poetic cut-outs and star-set gems often adorning the underside of each piece. Utilizing only recycled gold, Francesca’s workshop is certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council under both Code of Practices and Chain of Custody certifications.
