hen Mateus dos Santos Rosas opened a goldsmith shop in the north of Portugal in 1860, he launched a family legacy that would carry on for over a century. In 1900, the second generation of the Rosas family began importing monogramed rings and signature silver mesh bags to other parts of Europe, in 1930, the third generation renamed the family business “Rosas de Portugal,” the fourth generation opened a retail shop, David Rosas, in Porto in 1984 and in 2009, Luísa Rosas, representing the fifth generation of the family business, debuted her eponymous collection.
Trained as an architect, Luísa is drawn to the order of geometric shapes.

Trained as an architect, Luísa is drawn to the order of geometric shapes. She in turn views her surroundings through this lens, finding structure in the organic patterns of nature. Growing up surrounded by the tools of the jewelry trade, Luísa discovered that jewelry design was the perfect medium for expressing her creativity. Her familiarity with the fundamentals of the craft allows her the freedom to experiment and play, meticulously and tirelessly pushing the boundaries of the artform to achieve pieces that convey sentiments of connectivity and harmony with our natural surroundings.

Working alongside Master jewelers with whom she shares a shorthand, Luísa elegantly translates her vision into impeccably crafted creations. Every detail of Luísa’s designs have been thoughtfully tended to, from the subtle juxtaposition of matte and polished textures to the quality of the diamonds with which she works, the brand demonstrates an uncompromising commitment to excellence in design and fabrication.

Drawing on the natural forms around her, from fauna and flora to the undulations of waves and the undertakings of creatures of the sea, Luísa weaves a world of magical enchantment, explaining, “My aim is to design a new way of inspiring people through a genuine connection with the essence of Nature.”

Luísa also finds inspiration in narrative tales that have underscored human existence for millennial. She infuses into her work the emotions evoked by memories and reflections of the past, and the contours and range of scale in her work reveals her profound understanding of the building blocks of all living beings. Looking at each of her designs as an expression of the human experience, her jewelry is intended to pay homage to one’s personal journey and serve as a reminder of the influences and moments that have formed their world view.
